The Sword in the Stone is turning 60?!?!?

It’s hard to believe that "The Sword in the Stone" turns 60 this year. As one of the few animated movies that try to watch every year (the other is Finding Nemo), it has ALWAYS been around for me, and as I became more exposed to Role-Playing games, it became one of my sources of inspiration, wit and humor throughout the years.

Based on the novel by T.H. White, the Sword in the Stone tells the story of a young orphan named Arthur, who is mentored by the wizard Merlin and becomes King Arthur of England.

The movie is a delightful and engaging adaptation of the novel, with stunning animation that still holds up by today’s standards and a charming soundtrack that really brings out the Bard in me. The characters are lovable and relatable, especially Arthur and Merlin. Their friendship and mentor-mentee relationship is heartwarming, and their adventures are full of humor and excitement.

One of the movie's strengths is its message about the power of knowledge and education. Merlin teaches Arthur valuable lessons about leadership, wisdom, and justice, which he applies in his future reign as king. This message is still relevant today and makes the movie more than just a fun fairy tale.

The movie's climax, where Arthur pulls the sword from the stone and becomes king, is a satisfying and memorable cinematic moment. The scene is beautifully animated and accompanied by a powerful musical score that captures the grandeur of the moment.

Overall, The Sword in the Stone is a classic Disney movie that still holds up today. It's a fun and heartwarming adventure that teaches important lessons about leadership and education. If you haven't seen it yet, it's definitely worth a watch.

Myself, well - it’s Sunday, and I think I will throw it one more time and reminisce about watching during Wonderful World of Disney, you know….those days when Disney meant magic. Beside, who doesn’t love smoking in a Disney movie?
