The Emerald Cup of Jahangir
Sometimes truth is stranger than anything we can imagine. And sometimes reality has inspiration for us all. I came across this gorgeous emrald cup this morning and shared it with my friends. Glenn immediately said, “We could make that a magic item….” I replied “Challenge Accepted!”
Historical: Sometime between the years 1605 and 1627 an Emerald cup was made for the Emperor Jahangir. It was 252 carats of pure emerald. Inscribed on each of the six faces of the cup are lines o a poem in Farsi:
I pray to God for your good fortunes
That your rule (government) is successful
May your flower of luck always bloom
And may the eyes of your enemies be blinded
The cup currently resides in part of the Al-Sabah Collection in Kuwait
