The best Super Bowl ad was….
Well, another Super Bowl has come and gone.
No, we didn’t get Aliens (I wonder if anyone bet on that in Vegas), the halftime show was ho hum depending on your musical tastes and it came down to a field goal to win the game.
Even the commercials this year were lackluster - but there was one series that really stood out……Tubi.
Tubi is an American over-the-top content platform and ad-supported streaming service owned by Fox Corporation. The service was launched on April 1, 2014, and is based in Los Angeles, California. In January 2021, Tubi reached 33 million monthly active users. As of January 2022, Tubi has 51 million monthly active users.
While I personally loved the dark “Down the Rabbit Hole” theme of their commercials, one of their commercials really stood out to me, and also appeared to irritate some. Yes - I mean the Tubi Interface Interruption commercial.
I am not going to lie - they got me with this one, and as soon as I realized….I laughed. Well done. Meanwhile, other’s were not so amused per Athlon Sports.
I found the commercial amusing, because I am actually old enough to remember watching the Andy Kaufman episode where he intentionally messed with the Vertical Hold - which also fooled me back in the day. This type of cerebral/sophomoric humor is lost on most - but I love it, and of course the Tubi Rabbit Hole theme fits right in.
Now, I am sure you are wondering - why do we care about this on a Gaming Blog?
Well, Tubi got my attention - so I went to see what shows they are currently running. To my surprise, they have a Sword and Sorcery section that have over 100 movies in the genre, and they really are some “Rabbit Hole” kind of movies. Most are B movies at best, but there are some classics and many I have never seen or heard of.
Needless to say, just with their Sword and Sorcery section alone - they have earned my interest and I will be checking their channel out even more. Maybe even doing some movie reviews of some of these as I take my own personal trip down the rabbit hole. For those that know me, that never ends well……but at least I have Tubi to thank/blame.
Oh yeah…..there as a game last night too…..Go Chiefs!!!!
