Happy Twilight Zone Day!
“You’re traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind; a journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That’s the signpost up ahead, our next stop, the Twilight Zone.” – – Rod Serling
Twilight Zone Day is a time for embracing the mysterious, weird, surreal, and even a little scary. This May 11 holiday was created to celebrate the iconic television show of the same name. The Twilight Zone, classified as horror science fiction, delivered on its promise to take viewers on a journey into new dimensions of horror each week. Created, written, and narrated by Rod Serling, the show premiered on October 1, 1959, and quickly captivated audiences with its masterful storytelling and unique blend of the eerie, bizarre, and macabre.
Running from 1959 to 1964, the original series remains a classic, beloved for its ability to stretch the imagination and leave viewers on the edge of their seats. While a remake of The Twilight Zone aired from 2019 to 2020, it failed to capture the same level of horror and excitement as the original. As we celebrate Twilight Zone Day, we can appreciate the impact this groundbreaking show had on the world of television and the enduring legacy of its creator, Rod Serling.
Editor’s Note - I was talking with Steph about this Blog Post and even mentioned the old Twilight Zone Magazine. Pulling one from the closet to show her, low and behold - look what was on the back cover.
