Gaming with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a classic children's movie and one of my favorites of all time. It tells the story of a magical car that can fly, swim, and even communicate with its passengers. The film, which was released in 1968, and mostly filmed in the same region of Germany that I lived (Bavaria, plus Rothenberg is one of my favorite cities of all time). The movie has captivated audiences for decades with its whimsical characters and imaginative plot, but what if you could take that magic and use it as inspiration for a Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) campaign or adventure?

In this blog post, let’s explore how you can use the world of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to create a fun and exciting D&D adventure for your players.

The Car as a Quest Item

The titular car, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, is the perfect quest item for a D&D adventure. Your players could be tasked with finding the car, repairing it, and using it to complete their quest. The car could have all sorts of magical abilities, such as the ability to fly, go underwater, or even teleport to different locations.

The Baron and Baroness as Villains

In the movie, the Baron and Baroness Bomburst are the main antagonists, and they could serve as perfect villains for your D&D campaign. The players could be tasked with stopping the Baron and Baroness from taking over the kingdom, and they could have to face off against their henchmen and magical machines.

The Toymaker as a Quest Giver

Played by none other than Benny Hill, the Toymaker is a charming and quirky character in the movie, and he could make for a fun and interesting quest giver in your D&D adventure. The Toymaker could send the players on a quest to retrieve a rare and magical toy that he needs to complete his latest creation.

The Land of Toot Sweets

The Land of Toot Sweets is a whimsical and colorful location in the movie, and it would make for a great location for your D&D adventure. The players could explore the candy-filled streets, meet the quirky inhabitants, and even battle against the evil candy monsters that lurk in the shadows.

The Childcatcher as a Miniboss

The Childcatcher is one of the most memorable characters in the movie (he scared the hell out of me as child) and he would make for a great miniboss in your D&D adventure. The players could have to rescue children from his clutches and face off against his magical powers.

In the end, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a magical and imaginative world that would make for a fun and exciting D&D adventure. Even if you do not use any of the ideas above - the music, setting and overall story is excellent fuel for the imagination.
