Everybody Loves Dragons
So I was looking through some old projects the other day and came across something I had done for my Day Shade. As I was participating in a ‘Medievalish’ group, I had one that was canvas and poles as opposed to one of those ‘pop-up’ ones. One day I looked at my poles and thought…. “I can do better than little spherical fence post toppers.”
I’ve always been attracted to the ‘Viking Aesthetic’ so I pondered what I could do.
My family and friends had been using this symbol to identify ourselves so I thought “That’ll do”
I took the design of the head of the twisty dragon
TRIVIA QUIZ: How can you tell the difference between a Norse Snake or a Dragon? Dragons have feet! But the word in Norse for both is Ormr.
I laid the design on some poster board then cut the pattern out of that. I transferred that to some 2x8 yellow pine that I had hanging out in the garage.
About 8 hours later working with files, rasps and a blet sander I had this. Man! That took a lot longer than I thought it would! So about a week later I had these:
To play on my wife’s OCD you will note that none of the Dragons are the same. They are all different in some way.
And here they all are. :D
That was a fun project!
