We are both very happy and proud to announce that Twilight: 2000 and 2300AD have been acquired in their entirety by Mongoose Publishing, joining our library of games alongside Traveller.

All three are games I read and played as a teenager, and so it is both awesome and humbling to become their stewards.

So, what does this mean?

Twilight: 2000
Twilight: 2000 is currently published by the frankly stellar people at Free League. We have had conversations with them and not only will Twilight: 2000 continue to be published by Free League for the current licence period, as things stand we have every expectation it will stay in their capable hands beyond that.

2300AD
You will be seeing more 2300AD material coming in the near future, and we have manuscripts due for both Invasion and a brand new book of adventures. In addition, we will be bringing 2300AD to the TAS programme on Drivethru, likely within the next few months - so get writing! Classic Traveller will be appearing on TAS within the next month or so, and once that is up and running we will get cracking on 2300AD.

For me, this announcement hits close to home. I grew up playing Twilight: 2000, and its gritty depiction of a world torn apart by war sparked a fascination with military tactics and survival scenarios. Alongside TSR’s Top Secret, these games influenced my decision to join the Army in 1987. The setting, atmosphere, problem-solving, and strategy that Twilight: 2000 offered was more than just fun—it was a formative experience that prepared me for real-world challenges.

Twilight: 2000, first published in 1984 by GDW, became known for its realistic take on the aftermath of World War III. The game allowed players to navigate a chaotic, war-torn landscape, focusing on military realism and survival tactics. Over the years, the game evolved with new editions, and most recently, Free League Publishing has been producing updated content under license. Mongoose has indicated that this arrangement with Free League will continue, ensuring more great content to come.

2300AD, originally released as Traveller: 2300, takes players to the future, where humanity has recovered from global devastation and begun exploring space. While initially tied to the Traveller universe, 2300AD became its own entity, offering hard science fiction focused on realistic space exploration. Mongoose has been publishing 2300AD material since 2007, so their acquisition of the full rights solidifies their control and paves the way for future expansions.

Mongoose has a proven track record of reviving classic RPGs, especially with their work on Traveller and Paranoia, a darkly comedic dystopian RPG known for its satirical take on authoritarian control. This history ensures that fans of Twilight: 2000 and 2300AD can expect high-quality updates and new material. Whether you prefer the post-apocalyptic realism of Twilight: 2000, the hard sci-fi of 2300AD, or the absurdity of Paranoia, Mongoose’s leadership promises exciting new developments for all these games.

For those of us who have fond memories of these games, Mongoose’s acquisition feels like a homecoming. As someone whose early gaming experiences led me to a career in the Army, it’s thrilling to see these classic titles gain new life. Whether you’re a long-time fan or just discovering these universes, now is the perfect time to dive back in and explore the endless possibilities ahead.
