Margarita Day

Happy Margarita Day!

I know, I know – it makes no sense that it is today – instead, it should be on May 5th…aka Cinco de Mayo. These fake holidays make like life to confussing, and in this case we can thank Todd McCalla.  Who is Todd McCalla?  Just some guy who made up a holiday so he had a reason to drink Margaritas in the winter time.  Personally, I’m all for drinking whatever you want, whenever you want – it’s the American Way, but in this case – Todd has gotten the attention of Jose Quervo and this new “Holiday” is getting traction.

So, being that we love drinks and film – here are our two answers to Margarita Day, first the booze…then the movie.

Now, for the movie - I point you to the 2004 Slasher/Comedy - Club Dread, starring the late great Bill Paxton.

If you are unfamiliar with Club Dread here is the synopsis from IMDB:

Years ago Coconut Pete (Bill Paxton) had a hit record, but now he runs a tropical island resort where he spends his days basking in hedonism with the rest of the resort's offbeat staff. The paradise Coconut Pete presides over, however, becomes a living hell when an unknown killer begins slaughtering the staff. As the body count increases, so too does suspicion among the survivors. Now it's up to Coconut Pete and what's left of his staff to solve the mystery and stop the bloodshed.

The movie, produced and starring the guys from the Broken Lizard comedy troupe - aka the same guys who brought you Super Troopers, has some high and low spots. The comedy is a bit hit and miss throughout, and I really wish they would have just made a straight up horror/slasher movie. But what I can tell you is that Bill Paxton is the highlight of the movie, and below is one of the best scenes…and it fits with today’s theme.

Sour pour yourself a Monster Mash Cocktail, queue up the movie and enjoy.

Cheers - Ed
