Honor Among Thieves - Intellect Devourer

The Intellect Devourer is a creature that has been a staple of Dungeons & Dragons lore since the game's earliest days. This strange, brain-shaped creature has a long and fascinating history, with roots that go back to the very beginnings of the game.

In the most recent trailer drop for Honor Among Thieves, the cast does a quick intro to some of the monsters in the movie…..and now they have included this classic monster - with a pretty funny in game joke.

The Intellect Devourer was first introduced in the Greyhawk supplement for the original edition of Dungeons & Dragons, published in 1975. The creature was described as a small, brain-shaped monster with sharp claws and the ability to drain the intelligence of its victims. The Intellect Devourer was presented as a fearsome opponent that could pose a serious threat to even high-level adventurers, and its unusual appearance and abilities quickly captured the imaginations of players and dungeon masters alike.

Over the years, the Intellect Devourer has undergone a number of changes and adaptations as the game of D&D has evolved. In the early editions of the game, the creature was primarily seen as a monster to be fought and defeated. However, as the game's storytelling elements became more prominent, the Intellect Devourer began to take on a more nuanced role.

In the second edition of the game, the Intellect Devourer was given a backstory that tied it to the mind flayers, a race of powerful psionic beings. It was revealed that the Intellect Devourer was created by the mind flayers as a tool for infiltrating and taking over the minds of other creatures. This backstory helped to flesh out the creature's motivations and made it a more interesting and complex opponent for players to face.

In later editions of the game, the Intellect Devourer continued to evolve. It gained new abilities, such as the power to possess the bodies of its victims, and its role in the game's lore became even more important. Now we have a D&D movie that is really trying to include some of these classic monsters……and I am happy the Intellect Devourer is there.
